Instant Conversion of Voice-to-text

NEC Corp. has developed voice-to-text software that can instantly convert speech, such as television and movie dialogue, into text. It can also create minutes of meeting by editing out background noise, learning people’s speech patterns and distinguishing one speaker from another.

The software runs on desktop computers and achieves 90-95% voice recognition accuracy when the source material is a speech by a TV announcer. The prototype is only usable for Japanese, but the software in principle works regardsless of the language being spoken.

The converted text is time coded so users can easily find the segment of source material that corresponds to a particular part of text. The feature will be usefull when studying recorded lectures, for example.
