BRAILLE SYSTEM – THE MEDIUM OF EDUCATION FOR SIGHTLESS PEOPLE –

It is only recently that smart, Computerized fast Interpoint Braillers came into market for use by individual institutions.  They became very popular in Europe, America and even Indian market.  Software for data entry in English and other European Languages were also developed, so that knowledge of Braille is not mandatory.  Pizo based Computer fed smart Tactile readers also started being marketed in many countries, which has the potential of replacing reading voluminous Braille books.  For Braille data entries, special keyboards were introduced which can be used by blind persons directly.   Globally, use of these IT enabled smart gadgets and machines were, however, restricted because of their prohibitive costs and common blind persons continued with old Braille Slates or Braille Type Writers.  Although affluent people (blind persons) became, to some extent, self reliant as regards studying, writing and communication, for commoners it remained a distant dream to become self-reliant or get rehabilitated and join some job and earn.  Indigenous development by SAMEER is hopefully going to enable easy and cost effective availability of computerized Braille resources to meet the large demand in the country, in a cost effective manner.
