Dr Sunita Shanna

Dr Sunita Shanna 41, is an excellent example of with standing all eventualities of life. Attacked by polio at the age of 18 months affecting her whole body, she had to undergo a very lengthy and extensive treatment programme comprising of medicine surgery and other rehabilitation procedures, but did not allow her disability and time consuming treatment to become a deterring factor in pursuing her studies, which she was very seriously fond of. She went on to do her M.A. (psychology), M.Ed. and Phd (education). Dr. Sharma keeps herself active and mobile with the help of calipers and elbow crutches, keeping herself totally involved in her job as professor of Education at Aligarh University. Dedication and sincerity do not take long to reveal themselves. Government took due notice of her abilities and conferred upon her National Award for the welfare of the Handicapped people 1989. She is a keen music lover and sings ‘ghazals’ herself and is preoccupied with the ideas for the welfare of the disabled people.
