Disabled celebrate verdict on ramps

Slam BJP, Cong for ignoring issue

The Disabled Right Group celebrated today the Supreme Court verdict that wooden ramps be placed at the polling booths.

“We are proud of this decision made by the Supreme Court,” said Javed Abidi, convenor of the DRG, adding that “the future of the disabled would immensely change with it”.  Abidi, however, criticized both the BJP and the Congress for not bringing up this issue in their election manifestoes.

As far as the availability of the wooden ramps is concerned, there should not be any difficulty in ensuring their reach in all cities and rural areas, said Abidi.

Alok Sikka, a disabled present in the celebrations said: “Merely getting entitled to this right would not be enough.  We should exercise the right and then only will it hold any meaning.”
