WEBSITE FOR VISUALLY IMPARIED

Shruti Information Centre launched its new website for the visually impaired on September 26.  The site has been put together by ex-Prof.  Vinod Sena of Delhi University, after seven years of labour.  The website will not only benefit visually impaired persons but also those having learning disabilities like dyslexia or orthopaedic problem making them unable to read normal print. 

The website has three major divisions.  The first covers text resources and provides a catalogue for audio books produced in India.  It also gives full information on Braille publishing and electronic texts in India. The second division covers information resources and provides data on a wide range of subjects such as concessions and opportunities, schools, museums and organizations (in India, U.K & U.S) for the blind.  It has a list of Braille, audio magazine form India and special magazines published outside India.  It has a full section on medical resources listing eye hospitals, eye banks and low vision clinics.  The third division of the website comprises of its quarterly magazines-Shurti Magazine for the adults and Shruti Junior for young readers.  To visit the site, log on to http://indev.nic.in/shruti/.
